What's Wrong With Modern Music? by G.E. Pedretti
Part 6

The modern rock scene is boring, safe, stale, and in need of some real innovation. The cold, hard facts of the music business and musical theory cannot be ignored any longer. Pedo-Metal and the Constipated Baritone must be destroyed!

Inevitably when I bring the music business points up to fellow musicians, they will use the tried and true argument: "The majors have a stranglehold on distribution and promotion - I can't be big without them." No, I guess you can't be big without them - if 'big' is videos on MTV and your record shoved down the throat of every radio station in the land. But respected and truly rebellious artists like Ani Di Franco and Fugazi have proven that one can make a living just fine as an independent recording/touring act - with every ideal intact.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I challenge you, Mr. Alternadude Artiste: there is another definition of success out there, with no requirements of selling out - will you pursue it?
