Remember college radio? Remember DJs who came in and played whatever they wanted - A-lists, B-lists, and commercial "alternative" radio be damned? Remember people who loved music so much they couldn't give a damn about silly genre labels? WMSE does. Seriously, people of Milwaukee - this is one of the last great American college radio stations, standing tall above the post-Nirvana commercial wasteland.
3wk is all indie, all the time. OK, I lied - but the major label stuff they play (only a few times an hour) tends to be innocuous stuff like Bjork, Radiohead, or the Cure. A great place to catch up on all the new Hipster bands. Am I cool yet? 3wk offers a wide variety of formats, now with XXX Ogg Vorbis XXX!!!!
All hail the Master of British Quality, John Peel. He's older than your grandpa, and cooler than you - at the same time. The most significant DJ in rock music, ever, period. Click the "Listen Live" link here at BBC Radio One, and tune in Tuesday through Thursday, 4:00 - 6:00 PM CST. Alternately, you can listen to programs up to a week old on demand - in the window that pops up choose an old program on the right - very nice. You'll need RealPlayer. R.I.P. JOHN PEEL
